In the early light of dawn, the battlefield is often at its quietest, and potentially its most deceptive. “Their Throat An Open Grave” is a worshipcore translation of Psalm 5, capturing the stark contrast between the treacherous flattery of the wicked and the unyielding protection of the Almighty. This metalcore track isn’t just a song; it’s a realignment, shifting the focus from the “open graves” of human deception to the “shield of favor” provided by God.
This release marks a significant milestone in my ongoing behind-the-scenes “Psalmcore” mission. Birthed in the early days of All Glory Worshipcore, this track continues my background goal of archiving the Psalter through the lens of heavy Christian metalcore music. It’s a blend of atmospheric tension and raw, aggressive truth that’s designed to ground the believer in the reality that while the world rebels, those who take refuge in the King have every reason to sing for joy.

📖 Scripture Inspiration
I have anchored every note of this track in the infallible Word of God, specifically following the structure of David’s morning prayer.
Primary Scripture: “Lord, lead me in Your righteousness because of my enemies;
Make Your way straight before me.” — Psalm 5:8
Key Verse: “For there is nothing trustworthy in their mouth;
Their inward part is destruction itself.
Their throat is an open grave;
They flatter with their tongue.
Make them pay, God;
Have them fall by their own schemes!
Scatter them in the multitude of their wrongdoings,
For they are rebellious against You.But rejoice, all who take refuge in You,”
— Psalm 5:9-11
🔥 Song Meaning
“Their Throat An Open Grave” explores the theological reality of human depravity and the divine sanctuary of God’s presence.
- The Priority of the Morning: The song opens with a plea for God to “listen.” It emphasizes the spiritual discipline of ordering our prayers at the start of the day and “eagerly watching” for His response.
- The Anatomy of Deception: Drawing on the vivid metaphor of the throat as an “open grave,” the lyrics expose the lethal nature of the liar’s tongue. This isn’t just about “mean words”, it’s about the spiritual rot that comes from rebellion against Truth.
- The Holiness of God: Following sound doctrine, the song makes no apologies for God’s hatred of evil. He is a God who takes no pleasure in wickedness, and the track as well as the art reflect the weight of His judgment against the boastful.
- The Shield of Favor: The resolution of the song is found in the “shield of favor.” For the righteous, those covered by the merit of Christ, there is a supernatural joy and protection that surrounds them like a fortress.

🎶 Lyrics
Listen to my words, Lord… consider my sighing
Listennn
Listen to my cry, O Lord,
My King, my God to You I pray!
At morning’s light You hear my voice,
I lift my heart, I watch and wait!
You take no pleasure in the wicked,
No evil can dwell with You.
The boastful fall before Your eyes
The liar’s tongue is cut in two!
By Your grace I enter in,
Bowing low before my King.
Lead me in Your righteousness!
Make Your way straight before me!
For You destroy the lies of men,
But Your mercy sets the righteous free!
Ohhh!
Their throat an open grave, their tongue deceives,
They flatter with their words of schemes.
Scatter them, O God of truth!
They rebel against You, they mock Your proof!
But those who trust in You rejoice,
They sing for joy, they lift their voice!
You shelter them beneath Your name,
And crown their hearts with holy flame!
Scatter the wicked! Break their pride!
Let righteous praise arise inside!
Those who love Your name will sing
Your favor shields our everything!
YEAHHH!
For You bless the righteous, Lord… You surround him with favor as a shield.
RIGHTEOUS FOREVER!
🙏 Behind the Creation
Creating this track was a unique challenge and a joy. In my chosen translations of Psalm 5, there is a specific musical notation, “For the choir director; for flute accompaniment.” I wanted to honor that biblical cue, which is why you hear those specific flute-like synths weaving through the heavy riffs.
This song was forged in the early days of All Glory Worshipcore as part of my initial Psalmcore series. It was a deeply God-honoring process to take these ancient, intense metaphors, like the “open grave”, and set them to a sound that matches their gravity. I hope this track serves as your morning armor, reminding you to look past the flattery of the world and find your shelter in the King.
