He Is Risen (It Is Finished) — The Unapologetic Truth of Easter

We live in a culture that has diluted the blood, the agony, and the absolute triumph of Easter into a pastel-colored, commercialized weekend. But the reality of what happened on the cross and at the empty tomb is the most violently beautiful, world-shattering event in human history. “He Is Risen (It Is Finished)” is an unapologetic, cinematic metalcore epic designed to shatter the noise and preach the true, biblical narrative of Resurrection Sunday to a world that desperately needs it.

Christian metal is a uniquely powerful medium for this truth. The crushing weight of our sin, the brutal reality of the crucifixion, and the explosive, earth-shaking triumph of an empty tomb demand a sound that matches their magnitude. While many shy away from the heavy reality of the cross, this track dives straight into the fire, carrying believers from the garden of suffering to the ultimate victory of the King of Glory.

📖 Scripture Inspiration

This track is entirely saturated in the Word of God, pulling unapologetically from the Prophets, the Gospels, and the Epistles to paint the full theological picture of Christ’s work.

Isaiah 53:3-4 (NASB): “He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom people hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He Himself bore our sicknesses, And He carried our sorrows.”

Luke 22:42 (NASB): “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

Matthew 27:28-30 (LSB): “And they stripped Him and put a red cloak on Him. And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head… and they spat on Him, and took the reed and kept beating Him on the head.”

Psalm 22:1 (ESV): “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV): “And by His stripes we are healed.” (Directly referenced in the crushing Verse 2).

John 19:30 (NASB): “Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” (The anchor of the track’s narrative shift).

Revelation 1:18 (ESV): “I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.” (The theological foundation for “The keys are taken!”).

1 Corinthians 15:54-55 (NASB): “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

Luke 24:1-3 (NASB): “But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb… and they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”

Romans 6:8 (NASB): “Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him.” (The spiritual core of the bridge: “I have risen with Him!”).

Philippians 2:10-11 (NASB): “…so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

John 3:16 (NASB): “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (Proclaimed in the final euphoric chorus).

Revelation 22:13 (NASB): “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Proclaimed in the song’s climax).

Matthew 28:19-20 (NASB): “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

🔥 Song Meaning

“He Is Risen (It Is Finished)” is structured as a chronological, theological journey through the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  • The Agony of the Garden (Luke 22 & Isaiah 53): The song opens with the heavy, prophetic reality of the Suffering Servant. Christ actively taking on the “cup of our judgment” sets the tone. It wasn’t just a physical execution; it was the willing absorption of divine wrath for our sins.
  • The Brutality of the Cross (Matthew 27, Psalm 22, Isaiah 53, John 19): Heavy chugging guitars and guttural roars mirror the visceral violence of the crucifixion. The lyrics declare the profound paradox of the cross: the hands that created the stars were pierced, and our ultimate healing was purchased through His physical and spiritual torment (“By His stripes we are healed”). The earth-shaking cry of “It is finished!” transitions the song from suffering to the precipice of victory.
  • The Descent and Defeat of Death (1 Cor 15, Rev 1): The breakdown is an absolute declaration of spiritual warfare. When Christ died, He completely disarmed the powers of darkness. “The keys are taken” speaks directly to Jesus reclaiming the keys of Death and Hades. Death’s sting is permanently obliterated.
  • The Empty Tomb & The Rising Light (Luke 24, John 8): The atmospheric shift into the soaring chorus represents the dawn of the third day. Jesus is not just a martyr; He is the “world’s only Light” who shattered the night of sin and death.
  • Our Resurrection & His Lordship (Romans 6, Phil 2, John 3:16, Rev 22): The bridge brings the historical reality into personal salvation. Because He rose, we who are in Christ rise with Him. The song culminates in the ultimate declaration of His identity—the Alpha and Omega—and the universal truth that every knee will inevitably bow to Him.
  • The Final Command (Matthew 28): The track doesn’t end merely with a celebration; it ends with the Great Commission. The final cinematic war-drums and guttural roar of “HE IS RISEN!” serve as a battle cry for the Church to take this gospel to the ends of the earth.

🎶 Lyrics

“He was despised and abandoned by men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom people hide their face,
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely He Himself bore our sicknesses,
And He carried our sorrows.”

He knelt in the garden, the weight of the world,
The cup of our judgment before Him unfurled!
“Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me;
yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
(Yeah! Not My will, but Yours!)
Betrayed by a kiss, led to the slaughter,
The Lamb of the Father, the King of the water!

“And they stripped Him and put a red cloak on Him. And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head… and they spat on Him, and took the reed and kept beating Him on the head.”

The nails pierced the hands that fashioned the stars,
Our healing was purchased by the depth of His scars!
“My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?”
(Oh! By His stripes we are healed!)
“It is finished!” the Savior cried,
The earth shook with the breath that died!

DOWN TO THE DEPTHS!
DEATH HAS NO HOLD!
THE KEYS ARE TAKEN!
THE STORY IS TOLD!
“Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
(NO STING! NO VICTORY!)

“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb… and they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”

HE IS NOT HERE! THE TOMB IS EMPTY!
HE IS RISEN! THE KING OF GLORY!
He conquered the grave, He broke the night,
The Rising Son is the world’s only Light!
(Forever You reign!)
Through Him we have life, through Him we are free,
The Lion has won the victory!

Just as He rose again
I have risen with Him!
(Yeahhh!)
As He rose again
I’ve risen with Him!
Every knee will bow, every tongue confess,
Jesus Christ is Lord in holiness!

HE IS NOT HERE! THE TOMB IS EMPTY!
HE IS RISEN! THE KING OF GLORY!
For God so loved the world, He gave His Son,
That we may live, the work is done!
(It is finished! The work is done!)
He is the Alpha, the Omega, the end,
Our Savior, our God, our King, and our Friend!

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
HE IS RISEN!!!
AMEN!

🙏 Behind the Creation

The driving force behind “He Is Risen (It Is Finished)” was a burning conviction that the true, unvarnished biblical meaning of Easter needs to be preached to a world that is suffocating in darkness. We didn’t want to create something that catered to the commercialized, watered-down version of the holiday. We wanted to build a sonic monument to the raw, terrifying, and ultimately victorious reality of what Jesus Christ actually accomplished.

Christian metal is a severely underutilized medium for this kind of theological depth, but it is perhaps the most appropriate. The brutality of the cross and the earth-shaking power of the resurrection demand a sound that is aggressive, weighty, and unrelenting. There are not enough bands or creators stepping into this space to declare the unapologetic Gospel with this level of intensity. This track is our answer to that void.

Writing this song was an exercise in walking through the Gospel narratives line by line. Every breakdown, every symphonic swell, and every guttural scream was crafted to mirror the spiritual warfare and ultimate triumph of Christ over the grave. It is my prayer that this track doesn’t just entertain, but that it pierces the soul, reminds the believer of their freedom, and boldly declares to the lost that the tomb is forever empty.

The grave is empty, the keys are taken, and the King is alive. All glory to God.
