Under His Wings — Song Meaning, Lyrics & The Armor of Psalm 91

Psalm 91 is often read as a soft, comforting prayer. But when you really look at the text, it is a War Cry.

It speaks of crushing lions, treading on serpents, and standing firm while ten thousand fall around you. “Under His Wings” is my musical interpretation of this reality. It is an anthem of heavy protection designed to embolden prayer warriors, soldiers in Christ, and anyone feeling the weight of the battle.

This isn’t just about hiding; it’s about the confidence that comes when the Almighty is your Shield.

📖 Scripture Inspiration

This entire song is a line-by-line declaration of Psalm 91 using the ESV, KJV, LSB, and the NASB translations.

The Foundation (Psalm 91:1-4 ESV):

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty… He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge.”

The Warfare (Psalm 91:13 NASB):

“You will tread upon the lion and cobra, the young lion and the serpent you will trample down.”

This scripture is the ultimate promise of divine security. It reminds us that God’s protection isn’t passive, but it is an active shield against “the snare of the fowler” and “the terror by night.” I typically prefer the NASB, but also like to reference/use the wording of these translations for lyrical flow and familiarity.

🔥 Song Meaning

“Under His Wings” is about Power and Confidence. Not in ourselves or for boasting, but for all for the glory of the Father through Christ Jesus. It is a heavy reminder that we are protected if we are truly His.

I wanted to convey this hope to the hurting, the doubting, and the weary. But I also wanted to embolden the church with this reminder. The bridge of this song (“I tread on the lion!”) is a declaration of authority.

This song represents:

  • The Fortress: God is not just a concept; He is a tangible refuge.
  • The Shield: His faithfulness protects us from unseen attacks.
  • The Victory: Crushing the enemy under our feet because we are in Christ.

⚔️ Worshipcore Sound & Production Notes

Musically, this track balances the “Safety” of the refuge with the “Power” of the Protector.

🎶 Lyrics

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty!
I will say of the Lord, You are my refuge, my fortress,
my God in whom I trust.

Surely You deliver me from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly plague.
You cover me with Your feathers;
under Your wings I find rest.
Your faithfulness is my shield,
my defense in the night.

I will not fear the terror by night,
nor the arrow that flies by day.

A thousand may fall at my side,
ten thousand at my right hand;
but it will not come near me,
for You are my dwelling place.
You are my refuge, my Almighty God!

Because I have made the Lord my refuge,
the Most High my habitation,
no evil shall befall me,
no plague draw near my home.
You command Your angels over me,
to guard me in all my ways;
they lift me up in their hands,
lest I strike my foot on stone.

I tread on the lion and the cobra,
I crush the serpent under my feet!
Because I’ve set my love upon You,
You will deliver me!
You call my name — and I am safe!
You lift me up — You honor me!

You are my refuge, my Almighty God!
With long life You satisfy me.
You will show me Your salvation,
forever I will sing!

Ohhh — Under Your wings!

“He will cover you with His feathers; under His wings you will take refuge.”

UNDER HIS WINGS!

🙏 Behind the Creation

I wrote this song for all who need strength in the Lord right now. Whether you are battling doubt, fear, or a tangible enemy, you need to hear the promises that Psalm 91 delivers.

I really wanted to convey that hope to those out there who needed to hear it—myself included. When the world feels chaotic, this is the promise we stand on.
