“Years Restored” was forged in the reality of family trauma and the glorious, messy miracle of sobriety. It’s for the parent grappling with the “haze of smoke” they left behind, and for the child now navigating the aftermath. We serve a God who does not just forgive the past—He reclaims it. He gathers the fragments of a shattered timeline and builds something more resilient than what was originally lost.

Scripture Inspiration

The foundation of this track is built upon the promise of divine compensation. When we repent, God doesn’t just clear the ledger; He restores the capacity to fruit.

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you.”

— Joel 2:25-26

This passage is the heartbeat of the chorus. It reminds us that even when the destruction was “sent” or allowed due to our own choices, God’s restorative power is greater than the locust’s appetite.

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are full of adversity.”

— Ephesians 5:15-16 (Adapted)

We are called to “redeem the time.” Through Christ, we aren’t just moving forward; we are buying back the territory the enemy tried to occupy through our past failures.

Song Meaning

This track explores the tension between human regret and divine restoration.

• The Haze of Addiction: Representing the years spent chasing “hollow dreams” and the “cup of death” that leaves the soul parched.
• The Wake of Mistakes: Acknowledging that even after finding Christ, the “wake” of past choices often hits the shores of our current lives and families.
• The Ticking Clock: A symbol of the anxiety that “it’s too late,” which the Gospel flatly contradicts.
• Total Reclamation: The belief that in God’s economy, nothing is wasted—not even your pain or your failures. He makes us whole by gathering the fragments.

Lyrics

(Tick… tock… tick… tock…)

I watched the seasons change through a haze of smoke
Chasing a hollow dream until the spirit broke
The locusts came in waves, a darkness on the land
Devouring the harvest slipping through my hand

Ten years in a moment
A lifetime in a breath
I traded living water for the cup of death
Is it too late? Is the garden dead?
Echoes of the wasted years are screaming in my head

I will restore to you the years
The years the swarming locust has eaten (Has eaten)
You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied
And praise the name of the Lord (The Lord)
My people shall never be put to shame
Restored

The cankerworm, the caterpillar
The palmerworm, the killer
They took the youth, they took the strength
But your arm is not shortened by any length
You turn the desert to a standing pool
You take the wreckage of a broken fool
And build a temple

I will restore to you the years
The years the swarming locust has eaten (Has eaten)
You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied
And praise the name of the Lord (The Lord)
My people shall never be put to shame
Restored

You do not waste my pain
You do not waste my failure
You gather the fragments
And make me whole
Every second back
Redeemed
Nothing is lost in you

The years are yours
My days are yours
Restored

Behind the Creation

This song is deeply personal. I have spent my life watching the people I love most—my parents—battle through a lifetime of addiction, strife, and the heavy fallout of a hard upbringing. I’ve seen the “locusts” firsthand. I’ve watched the regret they carry for the years lost to substance abuse and the pain that still manifests in my siblings’ lives today.

But I’ve also seen the miracle. I have watched them become sober and fall into the arms of Christ. The struggle now is the “wake” of the past—the feeling that they can’t get those years back. This song was written to speak truth into that struggle. If you are breathing, God is not done. He is the God of the fragments.

On a personal level, this track pushed me as a musician. I’m still a new guitarist, and learning the heavy, syncopated chugging for Verse 1 was a battle. Every down-stroke felt like hammering out the regret of the past, turning that heavy weight into a rhythm of praise. The struggle to play it mirrored the struggle to believe the promise—but the breakthrough is worth the effort.
